At what level are  the Landscape and Landscape and Digital Imaging Course aimed at?
Our courses are billed for beginner to intermediate levels.

How long and how difficult are the walks?
The main purpose of the course is photography, not fell walking or hill climbing. However, having said that, walking will be involved to get to the most picturesque locations. Most walks are no longer than 30 minutes in duration. The difficulty of the walks all depends on the aspirations of the group as a whole and the weather. Walking boots and waterproof clothing is a must to bring.

How many guests are on each course?
Putting our dedicated and personalised training philosophy into place, we take a maximum of 4 guests on these courses.

What equipment do I need?
On the Landscape / Landscape and Digital Imaging courses it is essential to bring your own camera and at least a wide angle lens, as well as your camera manual, spare battery (fully charged), spare cards, sturdy walking boots, warm clothing and weatherproofs. In summer you might want to bring a sunhat and suncream too.

What exactly is included in the price?
The prices for all Landscape based courses include tuition from Simon, course notes, transport and lunch. Exclusions are drinks.

What time do we arrive on the first day?
We aim to start the course at 9:30am for all Landscape based courses. Coffee and tea will be served on arrival.

For the Digital days of the course (if applicable), the start time will be 10:00am.

When is the best time to come for landscape based courses?
Everyone has their own favourite season, and it really depends on what you like and what suits you. We run courses throughout the year but can emphasise:

Spring – this is such a refreshing time to be in the Peak District National Park. You can expect the unexpected, from blue skies to rain and occasionally snow. Generally the air is clean and sharp and snowdrops and daffodils dot the countryside. Newly born lambs and calves can be seen everywhere and is such a lovely sight.

Summer – generally warm and green and great to be outside from dawn to dusk.

Autumn – perhaps the most photogenic of all seasons. The moorlands turn purple / russet and the landscape is bursting with colour. You can’t help but be in awe at the beauty of the surrounding countryside. It’s also a great time to photograph the heather.

Winter – we are regularly subjected to snow flurries that coat all the surrounding mountains and hills. Occasionally, heavier snowfalls transform the countryside into a magical landscape. We are rarely snowed in however.

Your tutor, Simon Watkinson is a highly experienced Photographer and tutor and is sympathetic to the needs of those starting out into Digital Photography – be it you are switching over from film or this is your very first camera. We understand that in group situations some guests may be unwilling to ask questions, due to shyness. Our philosophy to teaching is being proactive and Simon will rally round you ensuring you are understanding every step of the course. However at some points throughout the day, we will allow you freedom to venture out and develop your own creativity.
